Jersey (Chungdokwan) Taekwondo: Classes are held each Tuesday evening from 5.45pm to 7.15pm at Fort Regent [Room C] - with Saturday mornings pending - and are open to all ages and to both beginners and experienced practitioners alike [see Gallery & News tab above!].
Tae-kwon-do translates as the kick-punch-art and is unqiuely placed as a sport, as it provides an educational process which is underpinned by the tradtional values of respect and discipline through its martial arts roots. And through its ancient Korean history, it has developed into a dynamic martial art in which over 60 million people across 194 countries participate and, moreover, has developed into an Olympic sport that defines speed, timing, accuracy and fighting spirit to a whole new level.
In reality, Taekwondo means a way of life and our aim is to provide a platform for everyone to enjoy the benefits of the art, the sport and our way of life. Beginners start by mastering the basics, in turn enhancing their fitness, suppleness, balance and coordination. As one of the founding schools in Korea, Chungdokwan has pioneered the art and developed its traditions into a powerful form of self-defence, stylised by vibrant and forceful kicking and striking.
The training programme concentrates on the holistic art and students grade through a disciplined and developmental syllabus guided by the founding principles of the World Taekwondo Federation:
Etiquette; Modesty; Perseverance; Indomitable Spirit and Self-Control.

And due to our affiliation with Chungdokwan GB and the BTCB, we also provide the opportunity for students to attend seminars and to compete in Poomsae [patterns] and Kyorugi [Olympic-style, full-contact sparring]. However, although these may be integral elements of Taekwondo training, please be assured that neither are compulsory at full-contact or competition level.

The BTCB - as the governing body for WTF Taekwondo in the UK and Great Britain - has a world leading National Academy in Manchester for elite and budding athletes aiming to make the GB Team.
