Tae-kwon-do translates as the kick-punch-art, and beginners start by mastering the basics and by enhancing their fitness, suppleness, balance and coordination. As one of the founding schools in Korea, Chungdokwan pioneered this ancient Martial Art and developed its traditions into modern-day practice which through its techniques teaches a powerful form of self-defence stylised by dynamic kicking and striking.

The training programme delivered by Jersey (Chungdokwan) Taekwondo concentrates on the Art as a whole and as a way of life, and each student grades through a disciplined and developmental syllabus that promotes self-improvement and integrity guided by certain tenets: Etiquette, Modesty, Courtesy, Respect, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.

Due to its affiliation with Chungdokwan GB, Jersey (Chungdokwan) Taekwondo also provides the opportunity for students to attend seminars and to compete in Poomsae [patterns] and Kyurugi [Olympic-style sparring], though full-contact sparring is only one integral element of Taekwondo and competition is not compulsory. Jersey (Chungdokwan) Taekwondo is affiliated to the British Taekwondo Control Board who, as the governing body for WTF Taekwondo in the UK, is responsible for selecting national teams to compete at International and Olympic level.
